How can one gain confidence as an adult?….. when they have gone a life time without it. Not allow yourself to be a push over. Be tough & develop personality all at the same time. My moods are sometimes high and then low. Sometimes I get so sad I want to commit suicide. But I know I cant. If I had confidence and was tough. I’d be able to survive anything. Are their classes or exercises u can do to help build confidence………….I always fail because i have no confidence in myself, im full of self doubt………….I want to end this.
If you can’t afford a therapist, go to the book store, they have hundreds of self help books, I bet you can find one that is describing exactly how your feeling. However there are side effects: they have broadened my vocabulary, helped my memory, helped me focus, and helped me find intention and a purpose. u can too.
I have to say that dating may be the worst thing for you.
Focus on yourself, everything else is a distraction, and will take energy away from you and your healing.
In a month you’ll feel stronger in 6 months then in a year if you really commit, you will be a different person,.
Let me say… Tai Chi has been such a confidence builder for me it’s one of the best things I have ever given myself. Ask about the Taoist way if you decide to go!
Good Luck! May D 4′s B w/ U!

Have you ever talked to a therapist about how you’re feeling? It is concerning when you say that there are times that you are so low you feel like just killing yourself. You could be suffering from some form of mental illness and medication may be able to help you.

I think there is something underlying your question, but I’ll answer as best I can your primary question first.
One thing that seems to be great for women is a self-defense class, like Model Mugging. I had a friend who was molested as a child, and she did one of these classes years ago and it was very empowering for her.
Setting yourself small accomplishable tasks, and then accomplishing them is another way to build confidence. Beware, don’t set yourself up for failure by giving yourself HUGE goals to start. Start small, baby steps, and be patient. Patience brings everything, as Teresa of Avila says.
As to the deeper issue I sense in this question – it sounds like you are struggling with big issues, and those issues are actually your life’s greatest teachers. But, it’s difficult terrain to navigate alone, actually, nearly impossible, in my opinion. I think the best way to achieve what you want – which is really about being who you really are, being happy and living up to your creative potential – is to enter into a relationship with a good therapist. Somatically trained, gestalt therapy, body-centered modalites are best. Stay away from ‘talk’ therapies, like analysis. Mostly they just keep you in your head, which most of us women are very good at doing, and we need to feel into our bodies -physically and emotionally.
hope this helps.
best of luck, dear one,
